Membership Growth and Marketing

Strategy: Develop best-in-class, comprehensive membership plan, supported by first-rate marketing materials to drive our message to specific stakeholder markets targeting moms, the community as a whole, and our existing scouts and adult volunteers.

Membership Growth:
-
Have proven and consistent traditional membership growth over a 36-year tenure, executing a vision and strategy to develop the highest caliber council and district membership committees to support this growth. The growth model has been purposely designed for long-term effectiveness and sustainability versus peaks and valleys often seen with poor or quick results thinking. Funding for our membership and marketing efforts has been acquired through various companies and foundations, and managed tightly to obtain the maximum turnout at a school night for scouting to cover the expenses incurred.

-
Created an innovative new unit blitz strategy conducted in the spring of the year to ensure unit growth and increase the opportunities to join scouting. This has resulted in an increase in Cub Scout retention and Webelos to Boy Scout Transitions. This strategy has also worked to improve our field staff’s ability to sell scouting programs in our communities and maintain positive school access relationships with superintendents and school boards.
-
Membership growth is attained using year around approach that employs the unification of commissioner, training, membership, and program teams supporting a professional-driven school night process. As Scout Executive, I insist that our fall school night recruiting effort be a comprehensive, disciplined, deadline-driven recruitment and marketing effort.
Marketing:
-
Designed and developed many Council printed materials, including FOS brochures, community information pieces, stakeholder reports, newsletter articles, etc.

-

-
Have given leadership for the use of social media in unit communications and event promotions.
-
Led the renovation project to update the Scout Shop and Council Service Center and improve visibility.
-
Maintain a constant visibility in local newspapers, television, radio, and social media publications, and have great experience in public speaking and media appearances to promote Scouting.
