Fundraising and Fiscal Management

Strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to ensure the fiscal stability of the Council. Network and create linkages to ensure long-term funding solutions are developed and delivered.
Budget Growth:
-
Developed and implemented all aspects of the Council's operating budget. Responsible for the management and oversight of the Council fund one operating budget of $2,500,000.
-
Developed and implemented fiscal management and stewardship policies in collaboration with the Council Treasurer, which strengthened fiduciary accountability at all levels. Organized the council finance committee and have ended all years with an operating surplus.
-
Increased funding in all previous professional assignments by strengthening relationships, improving community impact models, developing tighter internal controls, providing demonstrated outcomes, and working with staff to ensure understanding of the local United Way's importance.
-
Have had a clean and unqualified audit each year of responsibility with minimal auditor adjustments and no significant findings/adjustments as a near 15-year tenured Scout Executive.
Direct Support:
-
Achieved Friends of Scouting funding every year during my professional tenure.
-
Familiar and comfortable with large Friends of Scouting luncheons and dinners that engage celebrities, major donors, and political dignitaries. Have hosted multiple Governor’s dinners, including Bill Haslem (Carl Perkins Center – Jackson, Tennessee) and Brian Kemp (The Cloister on Sea Island, Georgia)
-
Increased the Piedmont Council’s Friends of Scouting campaign from $735,000 to $1,350,000 as Director of Field Service. Increased West Tennessee Area Council direct support revenue by growing Special Events from $34,000 to $77,000. Coastal Georgia Direct Support increased to $600,000 due to FOS, two council golf tournaments, a gated community holiday auction, and project sales. Old North State has also increased by reviving the council golf tournament, sporting clay, and Whitney M. Young Jr. Events.
-
As Scout Executive, I remain engaged in the organization of local district cultivation dinners designed to introduce Friends of Scouting to new prospects, create connections to Council headquarters, and allow for significant gift upgrades.

-
Maintain a timely and disciplined Friends of Scouting campaign of five months. This strategy enables the council to focus critical resources on strengthening programs, training, and membership for the remainder of the year. Expectation is for the campaign to reach its goal in May with a victory celebration in very early June.
Endowment Cultivation:
-
Enhanced Trust management committees and added marketing and technical committees to grow the endowment fund. Released ineffective trust managers, interviewed, and hired new trust managers, and developed and received board approval for investment, gift giving, and spending policies.
-
Hosted and organized Norman Rockwell Art Tour in Piedmont Council to raise endowment awareness, generating over $1,000,000 outright or deferred gifts to the endowment fund.
-
Conducted multiple seminars for attorneys, CPA’s, and other finance management professionals that generated new outright gifts, including a non-scout donor of $1,000,000 who was instructed by an attorney based on our seminar. In addition, other seminars were conducted at individual prospects’ homes, senior living establishments, and even as a part of the Camp “coffee clutch”
-
Hosted Coastal Georgia Council’s first Alumni and Heritage Society event in 2019, honoring an Alumni of the Year recipient and generating multiple new legacy prospects and gifts.
Council Generated - Special Event Funding:
-
I have managed Council-owned Scout Shops in three of the four councils I have served.
-
Led the Council Popcorn campaign from an optional unit activity to a full council-wide campaign with gross sales of over $400,000. This was accomplished by securing a top-level Council Chairman, strengthening the relationship with outstanding district chairmen, and increasing the awareness of total council funding at the unit and council levels through high levels of customer support.
-
Organize annual golf tournaments. Have experience in efficient organization of multiple types of tournaments, including vendor-sponsored events benefiting Scouting, 27-hole events with an average of 170 players, and smaller community-level events. Coastal Georgia Golf Tournaments are held at the Club at Savannah Harbor and the exclusive Ocean Forest Club on Sea Island, both generate over $50,000 net.
-
Have a long history of Camp Card experience from the early days of Scout Show Ticket sales to implementing Camp Card sales in West Tennessee. Before my arrival, the Camp Card Campaign was a large coupon book that lost money for the council ($4000). New card sales saw net increases to the Council from $9,000 in the first year to $50,000 in 2016. In Coastal Georgia, we moved Camp Card sales over the $100,000 gross sales mark for the first time in council history. In Old North State Camp, Card sales increased in 2024 by 30%.
-
Developed and led Council-wide Scouting Anniversary camping events - called Rendezvous that, in addition to providing outstanding program and adventure, generated net revenues of $25,000 with 7,000 attendees in 2003 and $50,000 with over 10,000 attendees in 2010.
-
Organized 75th Council Anniversary event in West Tennessee with multiple events including: All Troops to Camp Mack Morris Homecoming, Council Camporee, and construction of an anniversary flag plaza with memorial bricks for sale to enhance the front of the Scout Service Center.
-
In Coastal Georgia, I organized the 10th-year Black Creek Scout Reservation celebration and dedication event, recognizing capital campaign gifts and outstanding volunteer labor. The event included ribbon ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new dining hall and a family fun day for friends and relatives.
-
Organized the 60th anniversary Cherokee Scout Reservation celebration and dedication event that celebrated $1.2 million in 2024-25 donations for deferred camp improvements and the completion of a STEM and Trade Skills facility.
